Home Gym '23: What's changed in a year

It’s been almost a year since my longtime friend from my student days Vlad and I started setting up a small sports corner in one of the rooms of my apartment. Now, looking back, I think it is possible to make a retrospective and summarize some results.

A table with all the expenses will be presented at the very end.

Items #

Power rack #

Let me remind you that at the end of 2022, or rather on New Year’s Eve, Vladislav and I found an ad on the flea market for a power frame from Ironzubr.

Barbell #

Medium, 15-kilo barbell.

Plates #

Rubberized pairs of 5, 10 and 15 kg plates.

Dumbbells & Kettlebell #

I had a pair of 6-kilogram Soviet dumbbells left over from my grandfather. The 7-kilogram ones were given as charity by my friend Ivan, the 12-kilogram ones were brought by the aforementioned Vladislav, and the 14-kilogram ones by my other friend Vanya.

An old Soviet 16-kilogram kettlebell, also received as a contribution from Uncle Igor.

Bench #

Protrain S800 multifunctional bench. Adjustable backrest (negative, positive, right angle) and seat as well as leg extension.

Cable Pulley System #

We planned to make the block puller ourselves by buying the necessary materials at the nearest construction store, but some parts, to our surprise, turned out to be of poor quality, not designed for heavy loads in motion or were not available at all. Of course, we managed to find something on the Internet in markets and in ads on flea markets, but the price gradually began to exceed the initial budget.

We ended up doing a Mobius circle and after almost a year we went back to ironzubr.by to buy a cable pulley system.

Conclusions #

Looking back to January 2023 - right now for the money we spent, you can’t buy half that kind of construction, let alone the rest of the equipment.
